Towards the Light of Hope 48″/48″

“Towards the Light of Hope”. The horizon line is swallowed into the vortices of bold black and white marks that make up waves and clouds. The center point is marked bravely by a black bird that is struggling to avoid being sucked into the little black area that seems like a void. I rendered this feeling of chaos using circular motion as an ode to the compositional motion in the “Last Judgement” by Michelangelo. It’s within the chaos that the prakruti is separated from purusha. Higher in the sky, there are birds painted in light metallic colors that represent manmade objects. In scriptures a bird represents a messenger of the Divine. They are also associated with rebirth or spiritual birth as once birds appear as eggs they are born second time when they hatch to claim their existence. Within the turmoil of natural forces a green boat is drifting unscathed. I’ve shown it as if floating over calm waters as if it has a setting of it’s own that is peaceful in nature. The question arises – who are those handful of brave people in the boat? Are they even aware of what is happening between heaven and earth at this very moment, or are they just drifting in their own realm?
